  • If you ask any local, they will mention whether they live in Eastern Loudoun or Western Loudoun. The divide on the map is said to be Route 15. Reason being is that they have two very different styles of living. Eastern Loudoun was developed before western Loudoun and therefore is known for its conveniences, its data centers, and its subdivision and PUDs (planned urban developments), filled with town houses and Colonial single-family homes. Minutes away, a more rural lifestyle awaits you. Larger homes, larger plots of land, and what it’s best known for now- wine country! With around 60 local wineries and breweries calling western Loudoun home, and a collection of family-owned farms who are some of the local restaurants’ food distributers, Western Loudoun has quickly become a tourist attraction.
  • Eastern Loudoun cities include Sterling, Ashburn, Chantilly (some of Chantilly falls into Fairfax County), Aldie and Leesburg.
  • Western Loudoun cities include Hamilton, Waterford, Purcellville, Round Hill, Lovettsville, and Hillsboro
  • Most subdivisions are amenity rich, with some of the most popular ones being Brambleton, Moorefield Station, Ashburn Village, South Riding, Willowsford, Lowe’s Island/Cascades, and Lansdowne. These can also be referred to as Planned Urban Developments as most have their own schools and shopping centers. With the Silver Line Metro coming to Ashburn, their property tax is an additional .20 *.
  • Historic districts include Downtown Leesburg, Middleburg, Hillsboro & Waterford
  • The incorporated towns, such as Purcellville, will have an additional tax amount if you live within town limits. Purcellville’s additional tax, for example, is .21 cents.
  • Some of the more popular areas to visit and experience in Loudoun County are the Loco Ale Trail, Blue Ridge Mountain region including Harpers Ferry for hiking, kayaking on the Shenandoah River, sipping on one of the many vineyards, and enjoying the 40 Mile W&OD bike trail.
  • In western Loudoun, horseback riding is also a part of life for many. During summers Movern Park in Leesburg even hosts weekly Polo games.
