- Voted one of Travel and Leisure’s best cities in the US for 2022, Alexandria is home to Old Town Alexandria- its historic district that dates back to 1749 and features over 200 restaurants and boutiques. Much of Alexandria, including Old Town (one of my favorite areas in the DMV), is located on the Potomac River and features boat cruises, waterfront and water view living. The neighborhoods in Alexandria are known to be compact and walkable.
- One of Alexandria’s largest employers is the US department of defense.
- Neighborhoods in the City of Alexandria include Old Town, Parker-Gray, The Berg, Arlandria, Rosemont, Del Ray, Beverley Hills, Braddock Heights, Eisenhower Valley, Seminary Valley, Temple Park, West End, and Potomac Yard.
- Many areas outside the city have an Alexandria mailing address yet are a part of Fairfax Countyincluding: Hollin Hills, Franconia, Groveton, Hybla Valley, Huntington, Lincolnia, Belle Haven, Mount Vernon, Fort Hunt, Engleside, Burgundy Village, Waynewood, Wilton Woods, Rose Hill, Virginia Hills, Hayfield, and Kingstowne. Some refer to these areas as Lower Alexandria, South Alexandria, or Alexandria, Fairfax County.[50]
