- Virginia is part of what locals call the DMV region (DC, Maryland, Virginia). It is very intertwined. Some people live in one state and travel to work in the other. Many people travel in between states for work, fun or family.
- The DMV features multiple major airports (along with smaller airports such as Leesburg and Hagerstown) including DCA (Reagan in Arlington), IAD (Dulles in Sterling) & BWI (Baltimore).
- Major technology industry (second largest after California in the US) with IT Sectors and more than 100 date centers throughout the DMV. Some give it title as “Home of the Internet” as Loudoun caters to almost ¾ of the world’s internet traffic.
- Virginia alone employs 4.1 million civilian employees (government workers).
- Other major job industries include agriculture, forestry, fishing, real estate, and insurance.
- NOVA (Northern Virginia) is home to 6 of the top 20 highest income counties in the country.
- The wine region along the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Northern Neck area attracted over 2.3 million tourists in 2015 alone.
- Virginia has the 5th highest number of wineries in the US (2014).
